CORPORATE KARMA

The Annual Management Festival of OHIO University Christ College Academy for Management Education is called the Corporate Karma. This event is organized and conducted by the students every year. The students work independently on securing sponsorships and event planning. This provides them an outstanding opportunity to gain valuable experience in event management, from promotions to programming.

Management students from all over Karnataka converge to match wits in various events. The main areas covered include Human Resources, Marketing and Finance. These core events are paired with informal events such as Garbage Bag, where participants will have to assemble and market a product from disparate items given at the time of the event. The event also features Corporate Quiz, Debate and Elocution competitions.

In a comprehensive 18-month MBA program, students must learn time management-balancing a full course load with the event planning further enriches their classroom experience. Students work to build the event without the fruits of labor in mind, as this goes to the heart of Corporate Karma. Each year the event grows and expands providing our students a venue for personal and collective enrichment.

Batch 11 conducts Corporate Karma 2007

Feb 16, 17, 2007 ~ “It takes a lot of time, thought and effort to create something big! That’s why we plan on organizing Corporate Karma to ensure that all business schools witness excellence in the form of a two day event”. This was the response of the students of batch 11 from OHIO University-Christ College Academy when questioned regarding the zeal and enthusiasm observed in them for the event. The purpose of this event was to tap hidden talent and help the students develop managerial skills. This year Corporate Karma took place on the 16th and 17th February. Invitations were sent to almost all the b-schools across the country marking an active participation from them.

The surge of events for the inter-collegiate event began soon after the Inaugural ceremony, which was held in the DVK auditorium, Christ College Campus. The various games were based on individual disciplines of management and named according to their characteristics for example, HR competition was called ‘Manushyatam’, Finance game was called ‘Aparyaptam’, the Business Quiz was named ‘Paheli’, etc. To leave an impression on the minds of the participants, it was mandatory to host something different and innovative. The events on the second day specifically Corporate Race and the display of Corporate Dressing and Accessories served just that.

The Corporate Race was an event never organized by any B-school, an event on the lines of ‘Amazing Race’ aired on AXN. The event was designed to test the 360-degree skills of the team’s ability to coordinate various departments of management. Areas of finance (stock), Human resource (job interview), Marketing (product analysis), Quizzing (cracking clues) and leadership were an integral part of the event.

The event involved 5 teams consisting of 10 members each who were divided into various departments of Finance, Marketing, Human Resource, quizzing and Leadership. The members of the quizzing group were been provided with two cars to travel around the city; for cracking clues. This department also enjoyed the benefit of going to coffee day and java city for refreshments and negotiating with organizers to purchase clues. The finance department was involved in buying and selling of stocks. The amount earned in this department was used to purchase clues. Marketing team was involved in identifying product clues. They had to present the final product in front of a panel of judges. The human resource department involved team leaders and other members who would give a job interview and a stress interview. All the departments were involved in coordinating these activities. The overall winners of corporate race were ‘Alliance Business Academy’ and the runners-up were PES Institute of Management.

The ads for this were put up in different locations in Bangalore city too. All the ads (print as well as video) for the Corporate Karma were, in fact, designed and conceptualized by the students themselves

‘Display of Corporate Dressing and Accessories’ was an event where students displayed the wide range of apparel and accessories that can be worn to work. The participants were students of batch 11 themselves who were trained under ramp choreographer Mr. Ashok Anand from ‘X’ Factor. It was divided into four rounds showcasing formal wear, semi formal clothing, accessories and corporate dressing for the weekends/casual wear. The material reflected comfort and fashion simultaneously. Ranging from scarves and hand bags to mobile cases and instruments and laptop carry trolleys, the accessories displayed were handy as well as stylish making work environment seem even more desirable.

The co-sponsors for this event were SKC clothing line that exhibited their designer wear through the event. It was also organized for all those corporate organizations, which helped make this event a success. ‘Koolnest’ were the major sponsors for Corporate Karma as a whole in return for an electronic video advertisement made by the students of batch 11 for the company. The other sponsors included Journey Experts.Com (Jagadish Air Travels), White Money and Margaret’s.

The end of the two day marathon was marked by the Valedictory function presided by Mr. D. Bharath, President, Global Sales and Marketing, Thinksoft as the Chief Guest and also Prof. Shivaprakash A.R. and Prof. Venkatesha Bhagawath. At the end of the two-day competition, Alliance Business Academy emerged as the winners, bagging a marvelous trophy and PESIT moved down to capture the second position. On the occasion, Mr. Bharath impressioned, “There are a lot of expectations from India as a nation. It is a place for new ideas and talent lined up to match these expectations”. Prof. Bhagawath also shared a few words as a visionary teacher, “Realization of growth is through the learning environment that a b-school creates – an environment that goes beyond classrooms”.
