Hugh Sherman, PhD
Dean, College of Business, OHIO University
The OHIO-MBA Program is the cornerstone of our international efforts at the Ohio University’s College of Business. As Dean of College of Business, I take personal delight in seeing the achievements of this program during the past eight years. |
|
| |
We began with a desire to fashion a program suitable for the development of human capital in the Indian and South Asian business environment. However, over time, our faculty increasingly recognizes an opportunity to add value to students on our home campus at Athens-OHIO through unique “exchange programs” that put on students on foreign soil in cross-cultural teams with foreign students doing consulting projects for foreign companies. |
| |
Students in Bangalore and Athens campuses engage in collaborative efforts transcending limitations of time & distance and bring a new reality of transnational experience to both campuses. Our goal is to have students learn and respect cultural difference and think as through they are part of one global culture when it comes to their work both foreign and domestic. |
| |
The College has won the coveted award from AACSB for "Innovative Programs" for the Global Competitiveness Program (GCP) and Joint Student Consulting Project (JSCP). This award has strengthened our belief that it must offer the most relevant global learning experience to the discerning students. |
| |
Last year, the College had no less than 250 of our students on foreign soil consulting projects for foreign companies. Among them were fifty two from our program in Bangalore. This translates into more than forty percent of the class of 2007 in Bangalore. |
| |
Plans are already underway to expand our program to include a site in China where students will be asked to work with Chinese students to consult for Chinese companies. |
| |
Our program in Bangalore offers students an opportunity to study in a truly transnational environment. Our faculty, from both Bangalore and Athens, work in an integrated fashion to offer a program focused on building competences and skills desired to better equip students to work in the global environment. |
| |
Our faculty is trained in using an integrated approach towards learning that envisages simultaneous focusing on theory, soft skill development and professionalism. As a result, students graduating from the program can expect to fully understand the demands of working successfully in a multinational culture. |
