DIRECTOR MESSAGE

A unique educational opportunity

John L Keifer, Interim Director-India Program,
College of Business, OHIO University

The opening of Indian economy to foreign trade and investment has created both an enormous need and opportunity. Such market openings elsewhere have typically resulted in unprecedented economic growth and have prompted foreign producers to view them as both emerging markets and an important source of future firm-growth. Deregulation also has a corresponding effect on local producers as they scramble to internationalize their operations in an attempt to offset the effects of increased competition at home.

As a result, an enormous demand is created for qualified managers capable of operating effectively in the multi-cultural context of an increasingly global world economy. The current needs for managerial talent in India are increasing, and will continue to do so well into the future. As India blossoms in the global business community, it will require the development of a world class managerial talent pool and the retooling of its technical talent. The MBA provides the resource to achieve this through the collaboration of Christ College, Bangalore and OHIO University.

For nearly three decades, OHIO University has been a leader in management education in partnership with institutions outside the United States. MBA programs offered by Ohio University cover a broad range from traditional full-time degrees for new managers, through Executive MBA programs designed for practicing managers, to custom designed Corporate MBA for large organizations seeking to radically alter their management practices.

The MBA program offered in India is designed for individuals who currently possess a strong technical or business background and are currently at the beginning of their managerial careers. The collaboration of Christ College, Bangalore and OHIO University allows for a custom design and delivery of an accredited MBA from a US university on a full-time basis in India. A foreign MBA program provides the students with a multi-cultural learning environment in which to study business and management. Through their interaction with faculty and other OHIO University students, these MBA students can identify business problems and analyze them in a cross-cultural context. More than 25 years of experience and exposure of OHIO University faculty to foreign management practices and cultures, the use of the latest information technology, and the innovative methods of instructing through real world business consulting assignments, make the OHIO University College of Business uniquely qualified to deliver this educational service.
